Chandni Chowk is the main street of Old Delhi and a study in chaos—but it’s also the city’s soul, crammed with jewelry, fabric, and electronics stores, and a great place to sample some of Delhi’s famous street food. Take a stroll down the narrow street known as Paranthewali Gali and sample flat breads stuffed with everything from ripe sweet bananas to the more traditional potato and cauliflower, or drop into Karim’s Hotel—a must try for authentic Mughal cuisine like shahjahani kebab (deep fried minced lamb stuffed with dried fruit) and lehmee biryani (rice cooked with lamb and spices). Be warned: the traffic is appalling, so come by auto rickshaw, not car or taxi.
