Arriving A pre-paid taxi will cost around $6 to $8 to get to take you from the airport to the center of town. If you are feeling adventurous, you can take the subway to Rajiv Chowk and then get onto an auto rickshaw or a taxi to your hotel.
Getting Around For sightseeing, the subway is cheap and convenient. There are seven lines in total and 112 stations. The rides cost a maximum of $0.55, with one- and three-day tourist cards available too. Auto rickshaws are everywhere. The fares depend on the distance traveled, or you can hire one for a full day of sightseeing at around $5 to $10. A car with driver is a bargain at $20 for an eight-hour period.
Tipping Expected in restaurants and hotels, where even small amounts will be happily received. It is theoretically not necessary to tip taxi drivers, but a spurned Delhi cabbie is a persistent man indeed.
Etiquette If you are entering a religious site, you will be expected to be covered properly—no short skirts or shorts. In certain places you will be expected to cover your head too, so carrying a scarf in your bag might come in handy.
