For an alternative to the three-islands tour, which includes the glass factories of Murano, and which will take an entire day and many of your euros, head instead to Lido. It’s a short boat-ride from St. Mark’s, and lies on the water route to the airport, making it a great stop-off point on your way out of Venice. You can rent a bike for as little as a half-hour, and explore the string of beaches along tree-lined avenues past large mansions. This is a perfect way to decompress from your miles of walking through the hordes of tourists in urban Venice, and a taste of how Italians chill out. Back at Lido’s ferry station you can hop a boat to the air terminal, where you might just be ready for that plane ride home.
