In 2011, Lydia Leith, a 26-year-old graphic designer based in London, capitalized on our collective exhaustion of Royal Wedding mania with her “Royal Wedding Sick Bags.” The graphic pieces came with the tag line, “Keep this handy on April 29, 2011,” and the tchotchke became one of the most popular swag pieces related to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials. (You may remember that tea bags, books, iPhone apps, and even a royal wedding refrigerator were also sold in the run-up to the wedding.)
A year and a half later, Leith has introduced “Royal Morning Sickness” bags to help us handle the forthcoming obsession with Middleton’s pregnancy. The royal baby went viral online immediately after the Palace’s official announcement on Monday, and the Washington Post notes that, in this social media age, Will and Kate’s child will become the most blogged, Tweeted and photographed royal in history. There’s a pink and blue version of the bag (for those already betting on the baby’s sex), and the designer is offering a free royal-themed bookmark with each order, so buyers can read while they wait for the baby’s arrival. And since we don’t exactly how far Middleton is along, the bookmark may very well come in as handy as the barf bag itself.
