While I didn't know about that Glamour cover before, it wasn't the first major magazine (outside of black-oriented magazines like Ebony) to feature an African American woman on a cover. In 1965 and 1966, model Donyale Luna appeared on Harper's Bazaar and then British Vogue, respectively. I only know this because I studied Black models during the 60s and 70s during grad school.

Since she doesn't look like an Asian ethnics she doesn't pioneer anything at all. It's like some AfroAmerican artists do look like white people with too much tan just to circumvent racism.
