Beyonce Knowles attends the 'Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations' Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 7, 2012 in New York City.

Invitations to the annual Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art are being sent out, and, according to Women’s Wear Daily, those who were fortunate to receive one will see a surprise name: Beyoncé Knowles.

The entertainer has been added to this year’s gala as honorary chair.  She’ll join the benefit’s co-chairs who include actress Rooney Mara, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo, and Vogue Editor-in-Chief and Conde Nast Artistic Director Anna Wintour. However, it’s unconfirmed whether Beyoncé will be at the receiving line with them.

At last year’s Met Gala, Beyoncé’s last-minute arrival in a dramatic see-through black lace Givenchy dress was well-documented, and may have helped the entertainer earn her new role at this year’s ball, Fashionista suggested.

The May 6 ball celebrates the “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition, and will look at punk’s impact on high fashion from the movement’s inception in the 1970s to its continuing influence today.  The 14 looks include such fashion houses as Chanel, Versace, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. The exhibition runs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City from May 9 to August 14.
