Performance artist and vocal impressionist Jimmy James knows how to have fun with fashion. His campy, fabulous “Fashionista” finds him speak-singing over a Euro dance beat in reverence to well-known designers, but not without poking fun at the self-seriousness of the fashion set. Though the song begins backstage at a fashion show that’s about to start, it soon turns into a meditation on the highs and lows of the industry. He extols, “No one ugly allowed” and cackles; he then shouts, “What are you wearing?” Clearly James is in on the joke.
