With over 40 million views on Youtube, hip hop artist Kreayshawn’s debut single made a splash when it came out in 2011. Despite the song’s title, the twenty-something rapper turns her nose down at designer labels Gucci, Fendi and Prada, singing, “Basic b****** wear that s*** so I don’t even bother.” Are you what you wear, she asks? Then she goes on to deride girls who try to present a Malibu Barbie-perfect image via designer handbags. However, it’s not all labels that Kreayshawn hates—the success of “Gucci Gucci” led to her getting signed to a recording contract with Columbia Records.
