Ann Romney, who is known for her conservative style—blazers, button downs and cardigans—threw out the GOP dress code Tuesday night when she appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The presidential candidate’s better half showed up in something more suited to an E L James novel, appearing on the set in a black leather (or is it pleather?) scalloped skirt suit with see-through, lace-patterned stilettos. Romney accessorized her outfit with some bangles and a gold wrist watch and kept the makeup to a minimum. Perhaps she’s trying to appeal to female, independent voters in the final walk-up to the Nov. 6 presidential election? Or maybe she’s just been reading some erotica to pass the time on the campaign trail. Either way, Romney’s continuing to prove that she, too, can command attention with her sartorial choices (ahem, Michelle Obama)—and that even grandmothers can wear leather.
