The Nepalese designer has often joked that his mother didn’t think he’d made it until Obama wore his black-and-white dress to a Smithsonian event in March 2010. Lucky for Gurung, it wasn’t a one-time occurrence; the First Lady also wore his ruched, red floor-length gown to the White House correspondents dinner later that May. After a conservative start, Obama’s been getting bolder in her State Dinner choices, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this number on her soon.
