Back when this photo was taken in December 2009, Minaj had released three mixtapes and recently assumed full creative control from Lil Wayne’s Young Money label. Given the relatively historic context, this outfit is still rather tame, but the mild whole is less than the sum of its outlandish parts–Snooki’s sunglasses and hair, Beetlejuice’s pants, and Sue Ellen Mischke’s top. It was the big boom beginning of a beautiful style evolution.
