Weasel Tail in half-length portrait, circa 1900.
One of the most beautiful power pieces is the feather headdress—sometimes called a war bonnet—worn by Native American tribal chiefs and warriors for centuries. Traditionally ascribed to the Plains Indians, the style has since spread to other tribes as well. Although the delicate eagle feathers are visually attractive, they have a symbolic import as well: each one represents a victory or a brave act. These days, headdresses are mainly ceremonial, but their elegance awes and inspires all the same.
