More than $1 million worth of jewels by Chopard were stolen from a Cannes hotel room Thursday after the safe was removed and taken, according to Nice police. The jewels were meant to worn by celebrities in town for the annual Cannes Film Festival, which is known to attract thieves, but Deadline reports the Chopard heist is one of the biggest in recent history.

Chopard has partnered with the Cannes Film Festival since 1997, when the jeweler’s co-president and artistic director redesigned the Palme d’Or, the prize given to the winning director in the feature film competition. Since then, Chopard has decked out celebrities in its pieces for red-carpet premieres and other festival events year after year, and even released a Red Carpet 2013 collection to mark the 66th edition and the company’s 15-year anniversary with Cannes Film Festival. The collection features 66 custom pieces—one for each festival—and has already made appearances on celebrities such as Cara Delevingne this week.
