What It Is: An accessories subscription service that ships four to five wardrobe accoutrements tailored to each season.
Cost: $60
Frequency: 4 times/year
Tagline: “We find it, you rock it”
How to Get It: http://curatorandmule.com
What’s Included: gray messenger bag by Manhattan Portage, vintage belt by Wheelmen & Co., two pairs of “tribal-inspired” socks by Sock It To Me, three pocket-size notepads by Field Notes, recycled wool-suit bifold wallet by Jetsam. (Summer’s box included a pair of Wayfarer sunglasses, a military-style watch and a nautical bracelet.)
Initial Thoughts Before Ordering: I feel like I’ll be scared off by knowing what I get beforehand. Also, no clothes.
Impression After Receiving: This service doesn’t dabble in clothes, nor does it tailor styles and preferences directly to you. I felt like I had to tailor my style to match these accessories, or it would be a lost cause. It seems immensely difficult to gauge accessories that will be applicable to all guys. Obviously every man can always use a few new pairs of socks, but the notebooks seem like a haphazard addition.
Curator & Mule tells you what you’ll be getting before the box is shipped out, which could be either a blessing or a curse. The spontaneity is gone when the box comes in the mail, but at least you can halt your order in advance if you’re not feeling the goods.
