What It Is: A personal stylist-selected box of high-fashion menswear specifically curated and sized for you. Each box comes with 10-20 items, but you’re only charged for what you ultimately keep.
Cost: About $1,500/box (Mine was worth $4,679 based on the items I requested, though)
Frequency: As often (or as rarely) as you’d like/can afford
Tagline: “Become the best-dressed guy in the room”
How to Get It: http://trunkclub.com
What’s Included: 18 items in my trunk, ranging from a pair of striped socks by PACT ($10) to a graphite-colored shawl collar sweater by WRK ($295) to a navy Theory suit set (jacket, slacks and shirt; $885). See the full list here.
First Thoughts Before Ordering: This must be tailored to married men who hate shopping and have money to burn, because this trunk will surely be expensive. I will definitely appreciate the personalized input because it will challenge me to think outside the box.
Impression After Receiving: These outfits are luxury–but granted, most are out of my price range. I’ve never spent $200 on a sweater before, and on my salary, I don’t plan to. It’s an amazing service that I can try on everything at once, with no obligation and simply repack and send back what I don’t want or can’t afford. But I certainly see the guilt trip of the service–a nearly $900 suit has never felt so stunningly amazing, and here it is, sent to my door without having to go to the store and hunt for my size. If I were browsing the racks at Nordstrom I’d almost positively have skipped the section based on price tag alone, but here I am with it on, and I’ve never felt more compelled to spend the money.
