Francis Ford Coppola has opened the doors of the Palazzo Margherita, his latest luxury hotel, after five years of renovations with French architect Jacques Grange. The director-winemaker-hotelier’s fifth commercial property is perhaps his most personal yet: the Palazzo mansion, built in the 19th century, is located in Bernalda, the southern Italian town where Coppola’s grandfather grew up. In the nine-room getaway (including the Sofia suite, above, named for Coppola’s famous filmmaker daughter), 3-D televisions and Blu-ray players seem right at home among hand-painted fresco walls, vaulted ceilings and restored marble floors. www.palazzomargherita.com
