Louis Vuitton Trunk, produced circa 1869
The history of one of France‘s most iconic fashion houses is explored through the man who founded Louis Vuitton in 1854 and the man whose creativity fuels it today. One floor of the museum is devoted to Vuitton, who invented a new luggage silhouette in the late 19th century with his flat, stackable trunks and whose monogrammed leather bags are still coveted today. The other focuses on current Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs, who has added ready-to-wear lines and invited artists like Richard Prince to collaborate on the company’s signature handbags.
