
If Marilyn Monroe had taken to wearing potato sacks, we’d call them iconic. But the beaded, body-clasping number she wore while singing atop a piano in Some Like It Hot, a creation of Hollywood costume designer Orry-Kelly, was particularly memorable. For his efforts, Orry-Kelly won an Oscar in 1959. Clearly the Academy respects the va-va-voom.
