It’s hard to tell whether Salvador Dali was known better for his art or for his antics, some of which included keeping wild cats as house pets, making fun of and antagonizing everybody and wearing some appropriately surreal outfits. Keeping with his decadent half-Parisian, half-Mediterranean character, however, were his espadrilles. Made from canvas and jute, espadrilles are typically worn at the beach. Dali, not surprisingly, felt otherwise, and paraded around the streets of Paris and to evening parties wearing espadrilles. These are from Spain, just like the man who made them famous.
