One of the 20th century’s most influential artists often seems like the engineer and prophet of pop culture in the 21st. Everything from Damien Hirst’s globalized spot paintings to Keeping Up with the Kardashians can be fairly described as Warholian. So it’s no wonder that Andy Warhol remains everywhere nearly a quarter-century after his death. Starting this month, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City explores Warhol’s impact on contemporary art in “Regarding Warhol: Sixty Artists, Fifty Years” (through Dec. 31), including work by Richard Avedon, Maurizio Cattelan and others. Berluti, the shoemaker, marks the 50th year of its Andy loafer this fall with a limited-edition line in six pop colors. Incase and the Andy Warhol Foundation are launching their fifth collection of iPhone 4S, iPad and MacBook cases, featuring stills from Warhol’s landmark underground film Chelsea Girls and a portrait from his Photobooth series. Last but not least, Nars Cosmetics has also joined with the Warhol foundation to create Factory-inspired eye shadows, nail polish and lip glosses. Warhol’s self-portrait gazes placidly back at you when you check your look in the Nars compact mirror. Just remember: “If you can convince yourself that you look fabulous, you can save yourself the trouble of primping.”
