The simplicity may reflect what Louboutin describes as his “very masculine side.” He sometimes puts himself in the place of a man going out with one of his customers, and asks whether that man would feel proud to be seen with his girlfriend in those shoes. “Even if it’s a completely dated, macho idea, I respect it,” he says. “You’re a guy. You’ve got your girlfriend. You want her to look sexy and nice. You don’t necessarily want her to look like too much of a freak or something.”
