Much sightseeing in Delhi centers around Mughal monuments, of which the Red Fort in Old Delhi is a prime example. One of India’s iconic landmarks—Prime Ministers address the nation from here each Independence Day (Aug. 15)—the fort features 2-km of walls built in 1638. They surround a vast sprawling compound that includes several historic buildings, a museum and souvenir shops aplenty. A light and sound show takes place every evening.
