Bianca Jagger, Halston & Liza Minelli after a night at Studio 54 in New York City, 1979.
Roy Halston Frowick was a Midwestern boy who eagerly burst onto the New York fashion scene in the late ‘50s and in short order transformed himself into an internationally famous designer who worked hard and played harder. In socialite/model/actress Bianca Jagger, he found an ideal muse. Married to Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, Bianca’s style was a potent mix of rock and glam, with a dash of the exotic. She soon began dressing in Halston’s designs: one-shouldered, flowy dresses and Grecian-inspired looks with clean lines and a languid sultriness. During the glittery days of Studio 54 in the late ‘70s, they both were mainstays at the club. The look that Halston created and Jagger wore soon came to symbolize the last days of disco and has been oft-referenced by other designers in the years since.
