Armani has dressed many a celebrity in his day—Jodie Foster, George Clooney and Megan Fox are a few of his favorite customers. But for the Asian leg of Lady Gaga’s 2012 “Born This Way Ball” tour, the Italian designer went all-in, venturing outside his minimalist chic comfort zone to craft alien-looking stage outfits for the songstress—one of which literally had her wearing musical instruments on her head. Armani has taken a shine to dressing Gaga in recent years, creating both her memorable purple celestial dress and green bold-shouldered leotard for the 2010 Grammys. “I admire the way she uses fashion as a scenic element and as a means to build character,” Armani told WWD. It also serves to push the designer in a more avant-garde direction himself.
