Christian Louboutin had already named a shoe after the Gossip Girl when she was named the face of Chanel Mademoiselle in January 2011. Lively, who was 23 at the time, called the opportunity a dream come true. For his part, Chanel head designer Karl Lagerfeld called her “kind of an American dream girl.” Her first ads for the handbags were shot in Chanel’s Paris headquarters.
A year and a half later, another fashion house made Lively its golden girl. Gucci announced that she would be the face of Gucci Premiere in June 2012. The highly-anticipated commercials premiered at the Venice Film Festival that September. Directed by Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn, the ad cast Lively in a gold glow as she doused herself in the perfume to the tune of a remix of M83’s “Midnight City.”
“In conceiving this fragrance I was inspired by timeless Hollywood glamour and the iconic leading ladies of Hollywood’s golden era,” Gucci creative director Frida Giannini said in a statement. “Blake’s unique style and charisma brings that allure to life in a very contemporary way.”
